BECCOR is a melamine press machine manufacturer in Changzhou, China, and the HKT series is our standard short cycle hot press line: it bonds melamine-impregnated paper — and also natural veneer or phenolic film — onto particle board, chipboard, MDF, HDF and plywood in one fast hot-pressing cycle, producing melamine faced boards with glossy, matte, wood grain or marble textures.
HKT is built around the board sizes most panel plants actually run: imperial formats from 4'×8' up to 7'×9'. Total pressure of 12,000–32,000 KN is delivered through 6–8 plunger cylinders of φ320–450 mm — more cylinders, evenly spaced, is how a melamine laminating press keeps specific pressure uniform across the full board instead of concentrating it in the middle.

How to Choose HKT Short Cycle Hot Press Machine Tonnage

The correct HKT Melamine Laminate hot press machine tonnage depends on the board size, substrate density, surface texture and required specific pressure. Board size alone is not enough to determine the final machine model.

4×8 MDF Tonnage Calculation Example

For a 1,220 × 2,440 mm MDF board with an example specific pressure of 40 kgf/cm²:

Board area: 244 × 122 = 29,768 cm²
Theoretical tonnage: 29,768 × 40 ÷ 1,000 = 1,190.7T
With an example engineering margin of 1.08:
1,190.7 × 1.08 = approximately 1,286T

Based on this preliminary calculation, an HKT-1400 short cycle press may be considered. However, this does not mean that HKT-1400 is the required model for every 4×8 MDF project.

This example is for reference only. Final model selection must also consider board thickness, substrate density, texture depth, pressure loss, effective platen size, cylinder arrangement and future production requirements.

Six Factors Affecting Press Tonnage Selection

  1. Board dimensions: Larger effective pressing areas require higher total force.
  2. Substrate type: MDF, particleboard and HDF have different density and pressing requirements.
  3. Surface finish: Matte, high gloss, light embossing, deep embossing and EIR require different process conditions.
  4. Boards per cycle: Single-board and double-board production require different effective-area calculations.
  5. Platen and embossing plate size: The effective pressing area and force distribution must be checked.
  6. Future production: Larger boards or deeper textures may require additional tonnage capacity.

  • Does BECCOR provide installation, commissioning and operator training?

    BECCOR can provide installation guidance, pressure testing, process commissioning, trial production, operator training, acceptance support, spare-parts recommendations and remote technical service. The service period, response time and warranty terms follow the signed contract.

  • What equipment is included in an HKT quotation?

    The supply scope depends on the selected Model A–S configuration. It may include the main press, hydraulic system, loading and unloading equipment, paper laying system and electrical controls. Press plates, heater, trimming, cooling, stacking and packaging systems may be quoted separately. Please refer to the Project Scope in the quotation.

  • What heating system is required for the HKT press?

    The HKT press normally uses a thermal oil heating system to provide stable and uniform platen temperatures. The thermal oil heater may use gas, diesel, biomass or electricity. Whether the heater is supplied by BECCOR will be clearly stated in the quotation.

  • Can the HKT press produce glossy, matte and deep embossed boards?

    The HKT Series can produce glossy, matte, woodgrain and embossed melamine boards by selecting the correct press plate, cushion pad, pressure, temperature and pressing cycle. Deep embossed surfaces normally require higher specific pressure, greater frame rigidity and accurate platen parallelism.

  • What is the difference between the HKT and KT Series?

    The HKT Series offers flexible configurations for standard board sizes with a more controllable investment. The KT Series is designed for higher automation, larger board formats, high-output EIR production, camera registration, robotic handling and automatic press plate changing. BECCOR will recommend the appropriate series based on your project.

  • What is the difference between HKT-1200, HKT-2400 and HKT-3200?

    The models differ in total pressing force, cylinder configuration, achievable specific pressure and suitable applications. HKT-1200 is generally used for standard flat or lightly textured boards, while HKT-2400 and HKT-3200 are better suited to higher-density substrates, larger boards or deeper textures. Final selection depends on the effective pressing area.

  • Which HKT tonnage is suitable for 4' × 8' MDF or particleboard?

     Tonnage depends on the board size, substrate density, surface texture and required specific pressure. The preliminary formula is:

    Tonnage ≈ Board length × width (cm) × specific pressure (kgf/cm²) ÷ 1,000 × safety factor
